'Cross My Art' 210 Pentonville, Kings Cross
Private View Thursday, 30 September 2010
'Cross My Art' Is the largest, most exciting Private exhibition of Contemporary Art for London 2010. Focusing on 'The Revival of Painting', the sheer diversity and boldness of this exhibition stands us apart from any similar event. Showcasing recent Graduates from many top British Art Schools alongside experienced artists of renown, 'Cross My Art' offers an alternative to the frustrations of the Gallery system. This is an exciting option for serious artists to present their works to buyers and collectors on an even basis in a museum quality environment, allowing direct discussion and negotiation. This show is not to be missed
We hope to see you there.

This new series of works celebrates the culmination of ideas based upon the last 20 years. These paintings concentrate and focus on the fading of one idea into another with distorted images and abstracted thoughts. Based on the notion that we live in a throw away world each painting both suggests and questions the importance of certain celebrated things. Celebrity, Fame, Money and Greed feature as important issues for each of us. These are depicted as both fading memories and future hopes. The comic imagery signifies the unimportance of these things and helps to suggest that they have been manufactured for a temporary audience. Looking more closely the paintings illustrate a feeling of shallow existence. Surrounded by a myriad of colour, shapes and abstractions our lives are exactly the opposite. The ‘LIVING FOR THE MOMENT’ society, which actively encourages human singularism, seems almost unsustainable. Perhaps a return to truer values is the way forward. Certainly with current consumerism and appetite for fame and success, societies will neither progress

210 Pentonville is gearing up to host the biggest ever pop-up art exhibition in London, run by the lovely Nikki and Stuart from http://artandescape.com from 30 September for a week. The space is gradually being transformed as more and more artworks are being delivered.
Lea Minshull of http://pictureslondon.co.uk/ has set up a studio in part of the ground floor and is displaying some of his work.
This was a photo shoot last week.
Empty and unused office spaces are all around. Where some of us are scraping together the funds to rent an office, others share offices using a number of models, yet others work from a desk in their bedroom, we don't yet have a model to get owners or lease-holders of these empty spaces to open them up for use.
This is where a firm like Rateable Value comes in. The business model they work towards demonstrates to the owner or lease-holder that their property is much better off being used (lightly and responsibly) - of course we know that from a moral point of view, but even from a hard financial point of view, it makes sense - this is where the business rates reduction comes in (see below).
David Flood of Rateable Value has been in touch with the London Empty Space scene for nearly a year now. He is aware of Spacemakers and projects like the Granville Arcade in Brixton. Through Julia and Dougald he has been connected with the Tuttle scene and followed the developments through using a variety of spaces to meet to getting a space of their own (the Centre for Creative Collaboration).
I personally met with David last week, when he had gotten 210 Pentonville Road. My argument to him was - let's get the word out and let's get people using the space (lightly and responsibly). It's suitable for seminars, co-working, shows, exhibitions, workshops, events, even barcamps - all the basics are taken care of, it's a dream of a space. It's not really a Spacemakers type project, but we will partner with them and pool resources, where possible.
So - it's all go. Do we have potential uses? Let us know!
